Desiree Clement, is a United States Navy veteran who settled in Atlanta during 2003. She has over seventeen years of experience in nursing, with the last ten years spent working as a certified nurse midwife. During her career she has enjoyed educating nurse midwifery and nurse practitioner students as a preceptor in her clinical practice. Her undergraduate degree was awarded from the University of Maryland in Baltimore; she also completed her graduate degree with a dual specialization in nurse-midwifery and nursing education. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society of the Two Year College. In 2011, she was nominated for an Atlanta Journal Constitution Nursing Excellence Award. She is actively involved in the advocacy and promotion of midwifery by serving at the state level in elected executive positions as both Vice-President and Secretary for the Georgia Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Her areas of research interest include adolescent gynecology with specific focus on STD/pregnancy prevention through use of various educational modalities, healthcare policy, and nursing leadership.
